imperative is a groovy house track with delayed vocal stabs & a sampled female vocal running though with added with 808 clicks, chords & a snapping snare. the system2 remix of imperative is just as cool with a rolling breaky drum loop giving it a 90s house feel, again the vocal leads the track with the groovy bass & chords built around it. first up on the b side once again is a cool groove with sampled vocals & electronic bleeps echoing through the mix. last but not least the juliche hernandez remix of once again has a more 90s feel to it. fast paced with great percussive hits & a chunky bassline to lead, all in all great release aimed firmly at the dancefloor.

next up on moss co. is a 3 tracker from long-time moscow records artists dan farserelli, remixed by the supremely talented tom ellis. the record opens with lemons and limes, a catchy roller that bumps and grinds its way into the soul, each revolution of the bassline giving the body a sense of fulfilment, while jazzy musical elements entertain the mind. on the flip that time is a classic piece of micro house perfect for the early hours. a sparse, but groovy bassline is complemented by catchy hooks, percussion and a creative arrangement. the tom ellis remix on the b2 completes the record with a particularly trippy, but incredibly catchy, afterhours interpretation.

the last untitled future times white label release arrived in 2012, a record that we now know, thanks to the eagle-eyed searchers of discogs, featured a hunee edit of re-mida by don carlos. we dont know what kind of material features on this new untitled release from the label, but the bumping hip house rhythm and vocal combo and lush 80s analogue bassline suggests some kind of vintage material has gone under the knife to create this track. regardless, this one-sided 12inch is another essential cut from the dc-based operation.

for his second release jackin george teamed up with three of chicagos earliest house music legends. the result is a musical cocktail with the ingredients from an old house recipe: passionate vocals, a fierce bassline, analog percussion and rhythmic piano chords, turning the entire track into a classic underground anthem.

elephant moon continues its steady schedule of releases with a brand new ep from label owner john dimas and danish talent samuel andre madsen (aka s.a.m). on this fresh new release we re treated to two tracks from monsieur dimas and two from s.a.m. to open we have a quirky little space jam called moon patrol by john dimas. it has chunky percussion at its foundation with off-key chimes and cosmic pads giving it an interstellar feel. samuel s reshaped for moonwalk mix puts john s mix on a diet, making it far lighter and focusing on the ethereal elements turning it into a sweet galactic ditty. on the flip we get a sombre bossa nova ride from s.a.m., all jazzy with a grooving bassline and galloping beats. its a cool, laid back riddim from the dane and were sure youll love it. john dimas gives the track his own monday mix, bringing the tempo down even more and crafting a delicate heady rework.

ark & pit spector continue their inspired journey with an extended ep full of groovy jams and absorbing rhythms for hold youth. the frenchmen have formed a potent alliance with a series of expertly-crafted, high-quality releases dropping over the last couple of years. on this new ep they go deeper into their sound explorations with five original works and a remix from their parisian buddy and hold youth member, le loup. first up, we go into bumping jazzy territory with ‘chauffage central’, a mesmerising cut with swirling pads, soulful vocal clips and a jaunty b-line. straight up after that, hold youth rudeboy le loup gives ‘chauffage central’ a funky little rework, throwing live sounding percussion, nubian vocal clips, trumpet parps and a pumping bassline into the mix which gives a totally different identity. the final track on side a, is a cheeky teaser called ‘petite ondée’. rolling out for just under two minutes the track has a muffled, jazz-esque feel to it with a warm rolling bassline and bright, sparkling piano keys. on the flip we kick off with ‘air conditionelle’, a lush, retro feeling with those oh-so-familiar heavy-hitting eighties snare licks. the bassline takes you to a new york city street and the whole atmosphere is that of an old school nyc neighbourhood, while a spoken-word sample adds a human touch just before the track comes to an end. ‘sub tropical’ goes a little leftfield with an unusual combination of sounds in tandem with a pulsating low end, occasional sax licks and punchy percussion to give it plenty of energy. ‘averse et contre tous’ closes out the ep with a slothish ride into the sunset – ark and pit spector show their experimental side presenting an odd union between blues samples, gruff electronic sounds and piano keys. another triumphant effort from ark and pit spector, in fact, some of the finest work to date. make sure you check it out!

killer! paranoid london with another killer tune! heavy 808 rhythms and big acid bassline... addictive stuff! repress

ashworth concentrates on the essence of solid techno in his first full ep for made of concrete. inspired by the main component of concrete itself, the material is intitled ‘portland’ and consists of no less than four original tracks. “world” makes for a gentle introduction by opening with a soft melodic lead, swiftly changing the tempo after a few measures. we’re quickly immersed in a syncopated bassline peppered with whirring synths that harmonise with full scale piano cuts, the most intriguing earworm on the entire cut. on “launch” the producer lays down hard hitting techno drums from the get-go, setting the foundation for a tense atmosphere. ashworth’s signature move quickly ensues, as he manages to inject emotion through synths and piano pads into an otherwise tense and anxiety-ridden ambiance. toning down the graveness of the previous tracks’ mood, ”mineral” reveals a surrendering groove, with a stripped down, minimalist approach, where the melody is assembled with the help of industrial elements, emotive bleeps and electric glitches. ashworth’s experimental edge is evident in the final track “scatter” - the sub bass lead creates a morose atmosphere paired with low-key synths and mechanical loops. while the first two tracks showcase ashworth’s ability to instill life into solemn techno soundscapes, the second half of the ep successfully exhibits his edgy experimental side, adding up to a heterogenous release.

some more homegrown beats from elvis cassetta on morris audio! after his huge tune humney (morris audio 94), mr. cassetta is ready with another fine ep called longstreet claps. the title track is a deep and upbuilding house tune with cool vocals and a sexy bassline and shows elvis more subtle side of house. more of that please! the remix courtesy of up and coming london/leeds duo jammhot (madtech, roots of bloom, morris audio) taking a more stripped down approach, but as sexy as the original version. the b-side offers two straight club cuts, elvis cassetta style! and yes, elvis is his real name! enjoy!

italian rudeboy ivan iacobucci brings his brand of lowdown funk-influenced tech house to apollonia with this sterling three-tracker. over two decades of hard work and dedication to his craft has culminated in ivan’s untainted reputation and widespread respect within the underground from true heads like zip and, of course, the apollonia boys. his love of jazz in evident throughout this ep which is full of subtlety and depth, pulsating b-lines and smooth chords are interlaced with razor-sharp percussion and delicate keys. the first track ‘old in on’ has a laid back, though driving, groove, pushing forward with a hefty bassline that is perfectly counterbalanced by the light twinkling keys and barely-there pads. ‘scris frumos’ encapsulates more of an ominous, tribal feeling with intricate effects trickling through every pore of its deep, dark exterior. its atmospherics keep you intrigued, voices echo in the background and a few moments of softened chimes really intensify the already mysterious vibe. ‘mini ass’ channels more of that electro-funk that forms the foundation of ivan’s love for music, haywire radio pulses prance around stuttered beats, giving it a slightly cosmic feel, while pipes add a more organic nuance to the track. absolutely masterful work from ivan, and another inspired addition to the apollonia catalogue.

phoenix g s latest output is another mr.g effort with great versatility. showcasing the original g sound throughout the whole ep, the g man comes up with funky bassline samples, analog string action and the signature vocal cuts that have elevated most of his records in some way. pg055s comes in a special full colour sleeve with an iconic picture of the g himself. licensed from and thanks to rekids.

curitiba-based aia records returns with it s second release. lucas and marcelo also known as doneck, started to join forces back in early-2013. musically influenced by international recognised artists such as san soda, andre&#769,,s and move d, the duo also found significance in the sounds of aia s own label heads aninha & antonela antonela giampietro. therefore, creating a mixture of three soulful, deep but endlessly sounding tracks seems very convincing and credible to the overall ethos of the imprint. with assaz the duo delivers a deep but soulful house number, whereas ocluso is deep house at it s best, with a light atmospheric vibe and the echoing vocal. last but not least, te&#770,,nue creates this feeling of weightlessness and ease with warm natural added sounds and it s groovy bassline.

second release for patrick gibin aka twice and his ‘collective blends’ project which includes musicians from his home town verona - italy : for this release the collective invited special guest clara hill on vocals. the raw hypnotic moog bassline together with the brazilian influenced hi-hats and rhythms of the title track “time goes by” build a solid atmospheric groove elevated by clara hills’ vocals, that give the track that unique soulful swing. on the flip, volcov’s spaced out dub version of “time goes by” is as deep as it gets and the third track, phanareega, keeps the energy high with its combination of live acoustic/electronic drums, sharp bassline and anthem strings.

local talk release number 66 moves in deeper territories with a duo that needs no further introduction, greg dowling, shane johnson aka fish go deep. these two fine gents have been releasing music for more than two decades. both greg & shane played an integral part in the emergence of house music in cork city between the years of 1988 and 2001 as their well renowned sweat night at sir henrys helped to attract a host of talent, such as kerri chandler, laurent garnier, dj deep, glenn underground, derrick may just to name a few. it s a big, big honour to have them on aboard for this debut on local talk. first track, off script, takes us straight back to the days of prescription. the driving kick and bassline, warm pads and a hypnotic melody line that crescendos throughout the track keeping you hooked from start to finish. on the flip, northern reach, follows on the same theme. it hits deep, the strings adds that extra bit of drama and again showing the duo s skill in creating perfect atmospheric and timeless deep house. you wouldn t be surprised to hear dixon drop this in a dj set.

astute wax enthusiast brothers vibe brings forth the third installment of his mixx split series, meant to cast light on what the multi-label boss is notorious for: soulful house music! also signing the opening track 0.95lonliness , the american prodigy takes us on a deep incursion, skillfully layering classic house beats over uplifting sounds into a heart racing groove. newcomer eddie merced follows up with a deep and dreamy offering, infusing trancy vibes into a futuristic bassline for a full 6:29 minutes of midtown cruisin . delving further into the deep ambient realm, japanese producer tominori hosoya doles out some tribal sounds for his spatial track -paradise-. closing tune -deep space- gives away just a bit of the surprise in its title, as george p injects his signature tech house oomph in a contrasting murky bassline.

the last couple of years have been huge for pomo, going from a relatively obscure canadian producer to releasing his debut ep on hw&w, remixing for the likes of janet jackson and mark ronson, and touring the globe with disclosure as their hand-picked opening act.

spencer parker returns to radio slaves rekids imprint for two stripped back cuts in the second instalment of ‘no more silly club songs this february. the work them records founder and rekids regular dropped the first four track package last summer, which was a series of tools produced with parkers own dj sets in mind. vol.2 initiates with robust kicks and shuffling hats in silly club song no.5 whilst charismatic chords operate amongst drum rolls and a vocal crying out dance. on the other hand, no.6 follows a similar muscular aesthetic yet incorporates a reese inspired bassline as percussive elements rattle throughout. supported by radio slave, rodhad, dj rolando, marcel dettman, ben sims, mr.g amongst others.

italian trio agents of time make their ellum debut with a weighty, two track release. magma shares remnants of label head maceo plexs own formidable style, with compelling synths, punchy claps and a rumbling bassline. obsidian is finally seeing a release after causing heat from fur coat’s feature in their bbc essential mix a few months ago. heady, powerful, stirring, expertly crafted, adjectives that are regularly used for ellum releases and agents of time have confidently followed their predecessor’s footsteps. agents of time are andrea di ceglie, fedele ladisa and luigi tutolo. making music together since july 2013, they have clocked up an album on stem records and the massive polina ep on correspondent. their supporters include dixon, agoria and tiga, and their sound has been brought to over 20 countries through a live platform with analogic instruments.

lady blacktronika shows two totally different sides to her character with her return to bass culture via a potent ep full of deliciously dark, bass-heavy productions placed side by side with more soulful explorations of the house sound. following the ‘all in vain’ ep, which landed earlier this year, lady blacktronika comes correct once again with a collection of four of the finest quality cuts. our introduction to the ep is a thorough dip in the deep end of tech house, with the marauding ‘it rains’. full of darkness, the venomous track stomps along with a powerful, darkside bassline and razor-sharp percussion. high-pitched keys add to the malevolent flavour of this raw cut. after that, we get a more measured, yet mysterious and unsettling slice of minimal funk. ‘no good’ is a hypnotic trip inside lady blacktronika’s murky world with snarling synth lines, clever percussion, eerie fx and a naughty little b-line. on the flip we have retro-inspired ‘call my name’, with a very old school feel as the 808 gets a proper workout in tandem with a familiar female spoken-word vocal layered over the top. this is bound to send the dance floor into uproar with its killer vocal sample. finally ‘set out your luv’ gives the ep a heady ending, light airy pads are placed alongside a grooving bassline, soulful vocals, diamond-cut beats and squelchy effects to create a lush, dreamy soundscape which will get those hips moving….

a side brings rudman s finest house sounds for this heavy dancefloor produced track, but in the same time moody and balearic with a strong synth bassline that easely took control of the vibe and transformed it to a strong dance effect. for the b side imogen meets nunorthern soul artist dos palos with a slower tempo track with ilija rudman s instrumental stripped down mix of the lady of the west way. this remix sounds and could easily be integrated in any motion picture end having that powerful vibe of goodbye.

this is the second record of the modern house quintet, a french band who makes house music. like the former release, this new one features two house/deep house tracks: * marmande* starts with a lush pad and staccato bassline soon joined by percussions and an organ chord. the second part of the track introduces gradually a flute line plus a powerful open hi-hat. * bellevue* opens with a pad and a filtered rhodes synth supported by a low-fi bassline. that structure evolves step by step until the break introduces strong open hit-hats followed by another flute line.

mosco fell asleep and awoke days later with red axes. this is their joint offering for the esp institute. dikembe manutu, the fictional character whos name gives title to our thumping a side, establishes a lush theme based on meandering steel drums and reverberating toms while a slew of rich percussion leads us through the jungle on a melodic galloping bassline. once this deep groove gets us rolling, were treated to a variety of twinklling melodies that float high above. on side b, rage in the cage is a true live drum machine jam, full of bleeps, detuned toms, abrasive cymbals, and plenty of left turns. we can only imagine the mood in the studio as these three old friends frantically smacked buttons and tweaked knobs, creating happy accidents and loving every menacing moment of chaos as they stirred this cauldron. these two songs will make you thirst for exotic nectars.

the energy and versatility were used to when reinier zonneveld takes the decks is immediately evident in his latest ep. opening preceedings with sharp bust, a straight and to the point trancy bassline leads the way. decked by mechanic stabs and hi-hats, the groove is simply hypnotic and relentless. rushchamber, on the other hand, bears a subversive groove, with a minimal and dark bassline. glitchy cut up vocals give an eerie feel, as the whole atmosphere becomes more and more immersive by the way of multi-layered drums. the final offering, flatchat is anything but flat. its intricate groove shares the dark and immersive territory of the previous track, while another set of cut up vocals draw instant attention. a descending lead padded with reverb and stabby synths, the last track rounds up the release, ending on a grave and intense note.

we are happy to welcome ghosts of the sky in the family, 65th & lawndale is a deep and strong track sitting in a side, magical chords, stomping bass and lush drums are the secret of this beauty, a future classic. on the other side, melanin is a bit darker with its flowing pads and acidic bassline, really personnal. acieeed, like you might imagine is a pure acid jam in its most classical form. a fantastic ep we are proud of.

next on raw tools is irish producer and label owner, costelloe, delivering two tracks much in the manner of his previous works, both of them at the fine line between techno and house music.
while the title track, “infiniti” is definitely a dance floor track, with its rave pads and solid bassline, “pheta x” shows a more darker side of costelloe’s music. both of these cuts get special treatment from two of the most prolific and respected producers out there, lerosa and dj overdose, rounding off the ep with two amazing, yet diverse remixes.

for finitude music s 5th release, label owner marcel heese and alexander kowalski aka d_func. share their visions on thought control. both tracks on the ep harbour the same intent, but each of them approaches it in a different way. d_func. s take revolves around sahko-like bleeps, if you are into early mika vainio or sleeparchive, look no further! but instead of being loopy, it s definitely a builder. its original trance track-like structure is sure to rock many an underground dancefloor. marcel s vision is slower and less straight-forward but creates and maintains a high tension. based on dense a bassline and intricate soundscapes, it builds up slowly, only to explode halfway through. an extra payoff also comes at the very end of a track, its noise/ambient outro making a perfect way to wrap up an amazing party at 8am somewhere deep in the heart of berlin.

crossing back on the floor. avion delivers 2 new techno slices packed with mastermind remixes by tripeo and blind observatory. the release starts with the ‘intro‘ which brings up the mood of the record with futuristic signal bleeps and a warm analogue pad surrounded by kicking and stuttering percussions. the original of ‘centum‘ starts slowly to bring up heavy bassline surrounded by bright noises and alternating noise swirl verbed to voices highlighting partial explosions to end with bleep and soft strings. crossing 006 this time welcomes two fantastic artists as remixer and lays down ‘centum‘ to tripeo and blind observatory for their re-­&#8208,,interpretation. tripeo stays on the rough and kicking side of techno and delivers with his interpretation packed with the original strings and an analogue synth noise accompanied by a straight drumwork and cutted hi hats a kicking weapon for the floor. the myterious blind observatory takes the vibe of the original and pumped it with an acid bass to create a parallel universe built by dreamy strings highlighting the rides to lose control in the perfect moment. a real dancefloor killer.
